iLAN 2.0
Only 2 weeks away!
It's been a torturous wait, but the good news is... iLAN 2.0 is next month! there should be plenty of time to hone your skills and tweak your rig, make sure you don't lose your spot by waiting till the last moment to register. pre-orders close 21/3. 1 week prior to the lan!
iLAN 2.0 will be an awesome day long celebration of computer gaming, including a huge BYOC (Bring Your Own Computer) LAN party and an unhealthy amount of fun. iLAN 2.0 will be the best way you can spend a weekend.
Event: iLAN 2.0
Date: Sunday 28th march 2010
Time: 10am - 5pm
Venue: Mac Adams Music center (between the players theatre and the Olympic pool)
Admission: Pre-orders: $20 At-the-door: $30

We are expecting about 4-5 tournaments to be run on the day these tourneys will be ladder match rules. get your teams together and register on the day. The games we use will depend on demand. we will likeley see Counter strike, Left 4 dead and call of duty series, other games that come to mind are team fortress 2, unreal tournament series, quake, command and conqures series, need for speed.
We will have dedicated servers for CS:S, L4D, L4D2 Empires mod, TF2. aswell as a teamspeak 3 server.
Prizes for iLAN 2.0
We have a great range of prizes and give aways for iLAN 2.0. at this stage we are expecting a few hundred dolars worth! thanks to sponsorship from Netgear and itsdirect.com.au. Netgear has generousley sent some prizes including a gaming bridge that rrp @ $299! and mention of a few other networking goodies. Itsdirect made mention to gfx cards and gaming periferals so fingers crossed. these prizes will be awarded to tournament winners. staff from port computing solutions will be in attendance with special promotions for LAN participants, a range of items for sale with receipts, warranty etc. This is a great opportunity to grab some extra disk space!
On the topic of great LAN bargains, if you're looking to improve your network performance by replacing that lowsy onboard quasi-gigabit network card with a quality Intel PCI-E interface card, you should talk to Shibby (aka Daniel, via email daniel@portcomputingsolutions.com.au) asap to have it delivered in time. Why spend thousands on memory and disk space, then to spoil it with an under performing Nvidia or Realtek network chipset!
Info about Direct Connect
We will be running the ever popular DChub service for all you free software and free media sharing needs. If u plan on file sharing at the event ensure to get a copy of a direct connect client and let it hash your files.
(recall that piracy is illegal and is costing the movie industry millions in sales)
The minimum share is 20gig. So load up with isos from your favourite mirror. The Aarnet mirror is very fast for Optus and uni connections. The Optus mirror is fast from most locations depending on domestic connectivity of your provider. Pacifics mirror is very fast through pipe, as is Internode and Iinet. Although Iinets mirror doesnt have that much stuff. Internodes mirror is free data on internode plans, so you can just slug down stuff and your mum (or spouse) wont get mad when you hit your cap and friendface runs like myspace.
(piracy = against the law. breaking the law = jail time and or fines)
Remember, as always, that LAN staff will comply with law enforcement requirements and may request that you remove content if reasonable complaints are received from other patrons (we have never had such issues in the past) and failure to comply with these requests will result in your removal from the event. Port Macquarie Lan Events accepts no responsibility for any loss or damage caused by your use of the DChub service. You share and download with the same conditions as you attend the LAN... AT YOUR OWN RISK. Please dont forget that piracy is illegal and its killing off the Australian music industry

Packing List
First time to a LAN? Here's a guide to having a fun, enjoyable LAN specifically related to FragFest events. So what do I bring? Things you'll probably want to bring with you are:
- A computer, loaded with all the games you wish to play
- Your Monitor
- A mouse and keyboard.
- Latest updates and patches installed
- Ensure steam is set to offline mode. (ensure this is done when connected to the Internet. than double check by disconnecting for your modem and restarting the pc than launching a game)
- Mousing surface (ie mouse mat)
- A few power leads (Y power leads are ideal)
- A network card, installed into the above computer
- As there is only one power outlet available for each player, you will need your own powerboard.
- A copy of your operating system and device drivers in case you need to reinstall.
- A usb stick
- Headphones! If you don't have a pair, buy some! Speakers are not allowed.
- A can of deodorant
- Mobile phone & phone charger
- A plastic storage box or gym bag is worth investing in - makes carrying all your things in much easier!
